How The Right Financial Decisions Can Help You Live Life On Your Terms

financial-decisionsCountless people everyday are looking for an exit out of their current job situation. However, most of them are not ready to make the financial decisions that can change their circumstances.

How often do you see people who lose the job they so desperately wanted to quit, only to look for another one just like it?

The obstacle for those who don’t wish to be employed yet again lies in the transition time between not having a paycheck and creating a steady business income.

This had always been my big concern, until my mentor advised me to start a business with a product or service that was in line with my area of expertise.

He went on to say that this would allow me to focus on monetizing the skills I had already acquired as an employee.

The Paycheck Addiction

For as long as you are not clear on how to overcome the addiction to a paycheck, you can very easily find yourself in the position of an underpaid employee working hard to make ends meet, straddling between a job and starting a business.

The first step out of this predicament is to avoid doing things that are not congruent with your desired result.

Consequently, you will find yourself only pursuing tasks that are important because they get you closer to being able to choose when, where, how or with whom you work, thereby living life on your terms.

This insight helped me transition from an employee to an independent consultant and I have never looked back.

Once you realize you have the potential to live a more fulfilling life, don’t be dissuaded from finding ways of monetizing your passion.

Having a mentor to show you the ropes can certainly get you there faster, but you have to take the courageous decision to pursue your goals relentlessly.

What keeps many people from moving forward is the habit of spending a lot of time focusing on all the wrong things they have done in the past with bitter regret.

Dwelling on past mistakes and missed opportunities is a waste of time and can prevent you from trying new things in which your current opportunity may lie.

If you don’t try new things, you will never find out what works for you, and waking up to a life you love will remain a distant dream.

Quite simply, putting your life on hold in the hope that you will be able to live it fully when you retire is a short-term solution to a long-term problem.

Decide on what you want to do with the rest of your life and do it.

It all comes down to knowing the first step and being bold enough to take it.

Your peers, family and friends will attempt to tear you down and listening to them will only increase the mental roadblocks that will work against you if not challenged.

For instance, to stay in good shape, you may not necessarily exercise and stick to a strict diet because you want to, but whether you are in the mood or not, you do what needs to be done for the effect.

This may be hard at first but once you get used to thinking differently it will become second nature, and this will have an impact on how you make financial decisions.

Before long, your predetermined thoughts and actions will become what would seem your most natural response in the face of adversity or uncertainty.
